Charity Work

THE CORNISH SEAL SANCTUARY - AMBASSADOR

I started working with the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in 2020 just after lockdown using my platform to help and support by raising awareness of the incredible work they do by rescuing and rehabilitating grey seal pups from around the Cornish coastline.  The Sanctuary also provides a permanent home to animals that need special care from their team of marine animal experts.  More recently I was extremely honoured when they made me an Ambassador of the Sanctuary and now visit whenever possible to see the current rescues they have in and discuss ways that I can help them with ongoing fundraising and projects.

BDMLR (British Divers Marine Life Rescue) VOLUNTEER

Having been inspired by the important work that the Cornish Seal Sanctuary do and alongside my passion for the ocean and it's marine life, I went on to pursue a dream of mine in becoming a fully qualified Marine Mammal Medic volunteer.  This has enabled me to join my local rescue team who are the vital first response to any injured or distressed marine wildlife.  BDMLR have teams around the UK who rescue animals in all weathers and seasons.  As a Medic I'm trained with the basic knowledge, skills and expertise to enable me to respond to a callout and act on behalf of the animal's best welfare interests.  Being a Medic is something I've found to be extremely rewarding and interesting.

PRICKLES & PAWS HEDGEHOG RESCUE - AMBASSADOR

I was first introduced to Prickles & Paws in 2022 which is a lovely local charity providing a service of rescue, emergency care, rehabilitation and release for native British hedgehogs in Cornwall and the South West.  Working alongside Katy who is the co-founder I have learnt so much about the resident hedgehogs and how important hedgehogs are for our ecosystem and for conserving biodiversity.  I will continue to support them by raising awareness and using my platform to share their vital work and any campaigns or projects they are working on.

The Wave Project

The Wave Project is a surf therapy charity founded and based in Newquay which helps young people to reduce anxiety and gain confidence through surfing.  The courses they offer have been proven to have a positive impact and make their clients feel calmer, more motivated and better about their future.

From the age of 16 I was heavily involved with the Wave Project and this lead me to become a qualified ISA Surf Coach enabling me to work with them on a voluntary basis.  I was honoured to have worked with them over the years and help in providing lessons to some of the more vunerable children.  Working with them changed my whole outlook on surfing and nothing can ever beat that feeling of helping someone catch a wave for the first time.

For World Mental Health Day in 2021 I was part of a collaboration between surf giants O'Neill and The Wave Project highlighting the connection between surf therapy and mental health in both children and adults
